THE ARTHOLES, TURNING

‘The Art Holes, Turning’ was one of 2 works made during a residency at the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC), s’Hertogenbosch, Holland. (see ‘The Art Holes, Pink’)

In this work a number of plaster forms based on casts of the inside of holes dug in various locations in the area were mounted on steel frames with spindles and belts attached to a motor so that they slowly turned together.

The objective was to find a formation of the plaster forms based on their physicality rather than on aesthetic decision making, naturally the availability of potter’s wheels and turntables at EKWC had been an influence. The forms were placed so that their irregular outermost edges came within 5 millimetres of colliding.
